Did you know that squirrels and chipmunks are good swimmers? Our cottage is on a small island and every year when it starts to get cold out they jump into the water and swim to the main land (roughly 500 metres).

I saw a chipmunk two years ago swimming across the lake. It was pretty windy and there were pretty rough waves, considering his size, but the little trouper made it across just fine.

Here’s a shot of a chipmunk at our cottage. There’s at least one on the island every year. We call him chip (even though it’s most likely a different chipmunk each year). He’ll even eat peanuts right out of your hand. I’ll have to try to get a picture of him trying to fit a whole shelled peanut in his mouth — golden.
