Professional or Clinically Insane?

This is my cousin Matt. As you can clearly see he’s very confident with his tubing skills. At first we were just going around like we usually do, not that rough. But when he started showing off like this, well, that’s when we turned up the heat. Unfortunately, even after a half hour, we just couldn’t do it. He stayed topside the whole time.

In our defense, there was almost no wind — The water was like ice. Next time, Matt! Next time…

Little Trouper

Did you know that squirrels and chipmunks are good swimmers? Our cottage is on a small island and every year when it starts to get cold out they jump into the water and swim to the main land (roughly 500 metres).

I saw a chipmunk two years ago swimming across the lake. It was pretty windy and there were pretty rough waves, considering his size, but the little trouper made it across just fine.

Here’s a shot of a chipmunk at our cottage. There’s at least one on the island every year. We call him chip (even though it’s most likely a different chipmunk each year). He’ll even eat peanuts right out of your hand. I’ll have to try to get a picture of him trying to fit a whole shelled peanut in his mouth — golden.

Tommy

This is my cousin’s husband, Tom. Tom’s a good guy, well, from what I can tell. I don’t see him often enough; probably only a handful of times every year. Either at my aunt’s house on holiday dinners, or up at the family cottage.

That’s where this photo was taken, up at the cottage. It’s a small island on Baptist Lake in Bancroft. Really nice little place. There’s no power, so when we go up there it’s kind of like camping, except you have shelter and a bed - there’s no commodities like a shower or a television.

We were all just lounging around on the deck when I snapped this one off. Turned out quite well, me thinks.

Cookie?

This is my parents dog, Nicholas. My father constantly switches up what he calls Nicholas; using different words that sound like “Nick”, such as hick, or dick (when he’s bad). So during any normal conversation if you mention any word that rhymes with “Nick”, this little guy will stare at you with his cute little Ewok face tilted sideways, until you give him a cookie.

Poor little guy’s probably confused as a baby in a topless bar. Oh well, as long as he gets his cookie I don’t think it bothers him.

Honey Bee

I’m pretty sure this is a honey bee, not a wasp.

Yellowjackets, in contrast to honey bees, are not covered with tan-brown dense hair on their bodies and lack the flattened hairy hind legs used to carry pollen. — Wikipedia

So there we have it.

And, err, sorry about the long pause in postings. For those of you who haven’t noticed, I’ve redesign the site! The layout, colours, and code have all been re-done from scratch.

Aside from a completely custom built back end, one of the new features of the site is the option of subscribing. You’ll get a short email every time a new photo is posted so you won’t have to keep checking back here everyday looking for new content.

Let me know what you think.

Leaf!

A leaf close up. I’m surprised this one turned out at all. The original picture was far too dark, but thanks to RAW shooting, it was easily adjusted.

This one reminds me of the Vista Leaf, one of the Windows Vista default wallpapers. The Vista Leaf has more of a tropical colour to it, but I still think mine is pretty freekin’ sweet.

I loves me close-ups!

Another Unknown Flower

This is yet another unknown flower photo from Jeannie’s grandmother’s garden. It was taken on the same day that Petey, The Angry Parrot, was taken.

I’m going to try to start posting a wider range of photographs. I’d like to see some photos on here that aren’t flower shots, and that’ll be hard, I have a lot of them.

Through The Looking Grass

Taken in the Canadian Tire outdoor garden section. Yeah, that’s right, a different garden! I’m expanding my horizons!

I took my camera with me while Jeannie and I were looking for some flowers for our balcony. Well, Jeannie was looking, I was too occupied taking pictures of anything slightly interesting to shop for flowers.

I thought this one turned out pretty well.

Bleeding Hearts

These little flowers, I’m told, are called bleeding hearts; and I think it’s pretty obvious why. They’re very neat little flowers.

Again, this was taken in Jeannie’s grandmother’s garden. The same garden that my previous flower photographs are from.

Good Cheap Beer

This was shot at Jeannie’s parents house after dinner. I really like the way it turned out in black and white.

There’s not too many cheap beers that I think taste good; Maclays is, however, one of them. It’s brewed by Sleeman. The next time your at the beer store, I’d recommend you getting some.

Pinks

I’m told the name of these little flowers are pinks (hence the post name) and they’re actually incredibly small flowers. My lens was dug right in there to get this field-of-flowers look.

This was taken in the same garden as all of my previous photographs.

There’s going to be a few more from that garden I’m going to post. Though, maybe next time I’ll switch it up a bit and not post another picture of a flower.

Unknown Flower

It always takes me a while to come up with names for the photographs I post here. It doesn’t help, this time, that I don’t know the name of the flower in the photograph.

But here it is — a nice flower shot from my beautiful girlfriend, Jeannie’s, grandmother’s garden. Can you name the type of flower?

Petey, The Angry Parrot

This is Petey, the angry parrot. I’ve been told tales of a time not long ago, when Petey ruled the $3.99 bin at your local Canadian Tire. Petey would scowl at all of children who walked by, and kick canes from under old ladies. Petey reigned hatred from the discount bin, until one bright and sunny day he was bought by a nice lady who thought Petey deserved another chance.

Petey now resides in the nice lady’s garden, keeping a watchful eye on the petunias, and the shifty guy that lives next door.

Bah, enough of my rambling, did you notice the half-ripped-off price tag?

Beauty Blooming

I love this photo. I’ve shown it off, asked opinions, and the general vibe I get from others is it’s nothing special. But I love everything about it; the colour, position, and how the flower is in mid-bloom. It’s just not like every flower photograph out there. It’s the perfect photo to get this blog started.

It was taken one lazy Sunday afternoon at my girlfriend, Jeannie’s grandparent’s house. There’s going to be quite a few of these flower pictures, especially from that beautiful garden, so I hope you like them!
